Kathleen Hale was born May 24, 1898, in Scotland and died January 26, 2000, in Bristol, England. She was an illustrator and author, and the creator, writer, and illustrator of numerous children's books, including the "Orlando the Marmalade Cat" series. Her first book, Orlando the Marmalade Cat: A Camping Holiday, was published in 1938.
